Introduction to Social Emotional Learning

Many of the topics and skills discussed were aimed at goals that we are trying to reach as well as how to reach them effectively. These lessons are not only important in professional environments but also in our personal lives. Emotional intelligence is something worth having and impactful seeing it allows you to be able to control and manage your emotions in positive ways even during stressful situations. Being able to do this allows us to be able to communicate effectively and build better relationships. We have also learned about networking which helps us build relationships and get to know people and their organizations as well

Communicate Effectively

“Good communication is the bridge between confusion and clarity” - Nat Turner Communication is one of the most important aspects of our social lives. Although its most obvious form is verbal, it can take the form of non-verbal communication such as body language as well. In order to have effective communication with others, it must be respectful and non-aggressive. If you have made a mistake, it is better to own up to it and admit your mistakes rather than be defensive, as others may be more likely to forgive you. When giving criticism, it is good practice to first praise the person and then offer constructive criticism as it makes people more receptive. Ending with praise is also helpful in these situations. Furthermore, when convincing others to do something different, giving helpful suggestions and asking questions may convince people to instead of forceful commands.

Self Awareness Through Resilience

Resiliency is the process of adapting  well in the face of adversity, trauma, tragedy, threat, or significant sources of stress.
